When to visit Miami
Miami's dry winter season from December to April is the warm, sunny, and busiest stretch, with the highest prices. Summer is hot, humid, and rainy, and Atlantic hurricane season runs June through November, peaking in late summer.
Peak season: December to April
The dry season from roughly December through April is Miami at its best — warm days, lower humidity, little rain, and packed beaches. It is also the most expensive and crowded window, and the big events like Art Basel Miami Beach in early December push hotel rates up further.
Book lodging and popular restaurants well ahead for this stretch, especially around the winter holidays and major event weekends.
Summer and shoulder months
Summer is hot and humid with near-daily afternoon thunderstorms, but it also brings lower rates and a calmer feel, and the ocean is at its warmest. The late spring and early fall shoulder weeks can be a good balance of decent weather and smaller crowds.
If you visit in summer, plan beach and outdoor time for the morning and keep flexible indoor options — museums, Wynwood galleries, dining — for the stormy afternoons.
Hurricane season
Atlantic hurricane season officially runs June 1 through November 30, with activity usually peaking from August into October. Most trips are unaffected, but it is worth watching the forecast in late summer and considering travel insurance.
If a storm is named while you are traveling, follow the National Hurricane Center and local guidance rather than social media, and know your hotel's plan.
